“If you’re going to San Francisco, Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair,
If you’re going to San Francisco, You’re gonna meet some gentle people there…”
I was told to, at least, wear a flower headband upon my arrival to San Francisco – the song says it, it’s a classic and you just gotta do it. But classic or not, I have always had a problem with being conventional or simply answering to the norm; so, I wore a flower, neoprene coat instead.I wore it with sneakers, oversized menswear, heels and leather skirts, Topshop jersey, bodycon dresses; I got so many compliments by so many different people and personalities that I knew I had made the right choice, when I purchased it a Clearance Sale during a Snowstorm in Toronto and swore that I will find a way to wear it!
The ultimate validation? Compliments by kids, elderly ladies, hip fashionistas, contemporary mommies sipping their french pressed coffee, fabulous gay men and polished business men. With a range of individualities so wide, you can only win.
So, here I am – fresh off the Sausalito Ferry, past the dock and into Colour Tile Heaven, sporting my limited edition Nike Air joints (The Paris Shoe), reppin’ the 6ix in a Get Fresh sweatshirt and donning that staple Italian-made Flower Coat, which is a definite winner. Can’t lie, what drove my confidence to go up even higher was the fact that I was struttin’ down the street, thinking about the unlimited amount of tacos that I was about to devour. But who’s judging? We all dream about things and mine sometimes happen to be food-related.
