Part of my NYE resolution was to focus on healthier options when it comes to snacking. Let’s face it: cravings can be a pain in the behind in crucial moments; whether triggered by stress, emotions, boredom or that inevitable time of the month, that us females tend to use as an excuse to behave irrationally. For the record, it works…most of the time.

Enter the Kale Lime Pie! A personal favourite smoothie recipe that has become my go-to in numerous situations: to add energy in the morning after gulping up a huge glass of warm water with the juice of one lemon, post-workout fuel or simply a way to steer those cravings away by introducing my stomach, and my mind, to the benefits of this delicious green goodness. I borrowed the core recipe from a juice spot that I used to frequent, until I discovered the joy AND artistry of homemade smoothie prep, and I added my own touches to it over the past few months.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Kale Lime Pie:


1 Avocado

1 Pear

1/2 Lime

6-7 Kale Leafs

1 tbsp Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil 


A pinch of Salt

A sprinkle of Chia seeds


A splash of Coconut Water (Distilled Water works, as well)*

*You can also sub for Coconut Milk for a creamier result



Use the Crush setting on your blender to crush you ice, then add the kale, pear and avocado. Add a splash of your chosen liquid, the coconut oil (water or Coconut Milk), honey and sprinkle the salt and chia seeds. Finally, squeeze half a lime and Purée until desired texture.

Voilà! Your very own Kale Lime Pie, without the post-consumption guilt of its pastry equivalent.
